Why we don’t fix the biggest problems first.

August 12, 2025

Here’s something I see all the time:

A team is working hard.
Doing the best they can.
But every week… the focus changes.

And when everything is a priority?
Nothing is.

They’re responding — not progressing.
They’re shipping — but not solving.
And the biggest problems?
Still sitting in the backlog.

It’s not a discipline issue.
It’s not a leadership gap.
It’s a signal conflict.

Because even the best people struggle when:

The roadmap is based on opinions, not outcomes
Priorities shift to whoever’s loudest that week
Teams are told to “own it,” but not told what “it” is

One of the 18 signals we assess in the Recovery Readiness Diagnostic is:

“People doing the work have clarity about which priorities matter most.”

When that’s missing, velocity becomes vanity.
And your most valuable people burn out… while the real problems wait.
